Do I need both a declared <link rel="icon"> and a /favicon.ico?
A declared link is enough for modern browsers, but keeping a /favicon.ico at the root is a reasonable fallback for older clients and anything that checks the default path directly.
What size should a favicon be?
32×32px is the common baseline; many sites also ship 16×16, 180×180 (apple-touch-icon), and a scalable .svg for modern browsers. This tool checks presence and loading, not every size variant.
Why isn't my new favicon showing up?
